The Research on the Ecology of Carnivores and their Prey (RECaP) Laboratory at MSU [https://www.recaplaboratory.com/] is recruiting a postdoctoral research associate to assess the population abundance, occurrence, and movement of large mammals, including black bears, in a position starting in January, 2019.
While the research associate will be based in the RECaP Lab at MSU, the selected individual will be formally co-supervised with Dr. Joshua Millspaugh of the University of Montana. The objectives of the project involve estimation of the population abundance of black bears from marked individuals as well as density and occupancy estimation of black bears from unmarked individuals via camera trapping. The selected individual will also fit quantitative models to describe the movement ecology of large mammals.

Demonstrated proficiency in geographic spatial analysis and modeling is also necessary. The ideal candidate will have experience in spatial capture-recapture techniques, agent-based modeling, occupancy estimation from camera trap data, and animal movement modeling.
